In honor of National Science Fiction Day / Asimov's Birthday there is a limerick contest happening on Michael Swanwick's blog.

I grew up living on spaceships made of words (when I was traveling away from Arda, that is.) My mother used to worry that the weight of my bookshelves would have me waking up in the basement some cold morning.

I wanted SO MUCH to have the kind of access people in the stories had - information at your fingertips, books that could travel with you in bulk, friends all over the universe...

Now, I am sitting in a recliner with my laptop programing the kindle Jim got me for Yul, sharing the process with friends at all planetary points. It's my past that seems unreal to me now. Here's my limerick:

SF fans know the real race for space
was to keep all your books in their place.
Now, when bookshelf space dwindles
we fill up our kindles -
(I still keep my books - just in case)

This week I changed over to my new Macbook and upgraded my firefox to 3.6. I did not mean to do this just as Facebook decided to rearrange everything, but isn't that always the way?


Since the change, I cannot stay logged in at facebook. If I am playing Farmville, I get to click on exactly 2 links before getting the "you must sign in" screen again.


Every time I DO sign in, firefox asks to remember my password, and I say yes. Then I check my saved passwords, and it is there. But if I check after being signed out again, it has in fact NOT remembered my password. Facebook is NOT listed as an excluded site for saving passwords. As far as I can tell, this problem is Facebook specific.


Before I try a lot of install/uninstall and other trouble shooting, I thought I would ask if anyone else has had this problem since the big Facebook transmogrification.


Any input. fellow travellers?


(Yes, it does leave me signed in in Chrome, and in Safari. But I use these to keep different parts of my life separate. And sadly, neither of them work well with Farmville which, aside from keeping touch with a few folks, is the only reason I go to facebook.)
