You know, this is the 6th or 7th time I have been through a LJ is [fill in the blank] bad thang...

and the only thing I have ever personally seen happen is that every time, more people I like leave.

And of course, every exodus has led people to a different place, so now SO MANY of the people I used to talk to are gone, and I can't manage to find them all or keep up.

I know- any one could be THE one.
But, so far, LJ has never actually screwed me, but the "leave LJ NOW!" scares have......

Maybe I'm out of the loop. What happened?

I have noticed how splintered my old community has become. Dreamwidth seems to be the destination of choice nowadays though, if that's any help.

I just use Semagic to crosspost between my three journals.

My problem is that some of the people I miss the most went in the first exodus to insane journal. I have an account there so I can try to find them, but it will NOT leave me signed in, and most of the people I was looking for are friends only over there - as soon as it signs me out, it stops telling me if they post. And the longer it gets, the more I forget I have to go check on them....

What is Semagic and does it work on the Mac? I do have a dreamwidth account now, but I was thinking about it as a back-up plan

That sounds like you haven't found and checked the right box yet. Check the FAQ, it's probably around in there somewhere.

This is Semagic, and yes it does work on the Mac according to the web page, if you use PlayOnMac. Getting it to post to multiple accounts is tricky, but here are the instructions. ;-) They work -- I use them after every Windows wipe and reinstall.

If you can get it set up on Mac, I highly, highly recommend it. It's what I use for all my posting. This is why my LJ, my IJ and my DW journal all have the same identical posts. :) And it's such a wonderful convenience to be able to work on a looooong, involved post for days at a time in a file you can save. HTH.

I will look into it. It's not like I don't have live in tech support, after all.

What's happened? I saw someone else muttering about security, and changes in font, both of which are annoying her, and neither of which I know anything about.

I was linked to this: http://elleth.dreamwidth.org/288317.html

It know doesn't look good, but hey- I've been there before

I see there has been an update from LJ since - the truth probably lies somewhere between the version doing the rounds on Dreamwidth - 'you're all doomed... doomed...' and the LJ official version which is something like 'this was only a problem for those who live in the USA for a matter of minutes and you probably couldn't actually change anything anyway if you found yourself in someone else's journal rather than your own in those few minutes'.

I don't think I can be bothered getting stressed out about it!

Much like [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat, I haven't noticed anything. I refuse to Dreamwidth for other reasons and most of my flist similarly cannot be bothered to move - apathy for the win!

Yea apathy! The sedentary will inherit - well, the place where they are sitting, at the very least.

Sorry - it just seemed such a good opportunity to use this icon!

Oh, please don't flee! I'll never be able to keep track of you if you do!

I'll never flee unless they somehow lose me. In fact, I have 2 permanent accounts - that should show my intent!

Meh. Every 6 months or so there's another one. Sites are buggy, they screw up, nothing new.

I've been on LJ for 7 years and don't plan to change that. Maybe I'm just change-resistant (okay, I know I am), but I have yet to get intensely upset over anything LJ has done.

I agree it's a shame every time people go elsewhere and we lose touch.
