All of Arda belongs to the Professor. I am just a traveller.

There was little they could do for Gondor’s son.

Gimli piled the weapons of his fallen enemies in the bottom of the boat, and they settled him upon them. The hilt of his own sword they placed back into his hand, its broken blade beside it.

Then Aragorn, who was less of a stranger to death than his two companions, quietly murmured a song of parting while he combed the champion’s long dark hair and cradled his head upon the elven cloak.

If any should meet him on his road now, they would know he was coming home a hero.

Lovely and sad indeed. (I might debate the idea that Legolas is a stranger to death - I suspect he's lost a good many Wood-elves defending the borders of his father's beleaguered realm - but to mortal death, yes, I grant you that.)

Hmmm, now I'm imagining the conversation between Aragorn and Faramir when A. finds out that Faramir did, indeed, see Boromir on that last journey...

Nicely phrased. I probably would have inserted "mortal" death when talking about Aragon, because both Legolas and Gimli are proven warriors and have faced death before. But very nicely done.

Oh, yes--the hero returns first to his own land, and then to the Source of all. A solemn homecoming for one who should have been greeted with the sound of silver trumpets and green boughs and sprays of flowers and leaves.... Beautiful imagery.

A solemn end, poor Boromir.
