everything in this damn place that needs power to run fucking hates me.
kicks phone 1, phone 2, phone 3, the shredder, the online banking interface, phone 4, the air conditioner, graphic converter and photoshop.
I'm going to take a quart of advil and lie down now, with a lovely low tech book.

Date: 2006-05-31 05:34 am (UTC)In the middle of trying to do our bank maintenance the phone rang but the wireless one on hand was running low on power. A scramble into the dining room came up with the other wireless phone as dead. She turned off the air conditioning so she could hear better but the phone was going dead. Tay then went to the other end of the house and picked up the wired bedroom phone before the wireless died, but she was then stuck in there for the whole phone call - not even being able to hang up the first wireless to recharge or fetch her PowerBook to continue working via the AirPort. And she now had the bedroom air conditioner white-noising all over her super-sensitive hearing while the caller spoke in a low voice so her coworkers couldn't hear... and neither could Tay. After an hour she finally extricated herself, hung up the wireless phone to charge and went back to the banking site. It had timed out of course but now would not accept her login credentials at all. She got up again and went to the G5 workstation in the den, tried the bank from there with the same results. She called the bank from the short-corded wireless phone base-station and after about an hour got the problem resolved with the bank's tech support (they had no idea why it would not accept her old or reset passwords or PINs.) Afterward she took the papers to the shredder and it didn't run. Seemed the power-strip's plug was not really plugged into the wall which would explain why it didn't shred and why the wireless phone was dead - now power to charge it. She then returned to the comfort of her PowerBook after turning the livingroom air back on and the phone rang again. She scrambled to the bedroom again and it was me calling to say I was on the way home and asking if she wanted me to pick up anything from ShopRite. Surprised she did not say "a gun" - but this is New jersey, not Alabama so I'd have to wait a week. She then went back to the den (it was not cooling down in the livingroom) to scan the covers of her doujinshi covers to make a visual catalogue so she won't order ones she already has. GraphicConverter would crash every time she tried to do anything in its browser, despite that fact that we had been using it for similar duty last week. Notice the word "breakfast" has not yet appeared in this narrative?
Logging out, rebooting, tossing its preferences - nothing has yet resolved the problem, though I submitted several of the crash logs to the author so I will probably will hear back from him tomorrow.
I need to buckle down and get us a replacement for the annoying wireless phone. I suspect that since it operates in the same frequency range as our AirPort it's always in contention and draining its battery. Probably explains the dodgy AirPort reception too. Looking for a 900MHz or 4.8Ghz band wireless with a digital answering machine, earphone jack on the handset, a loud speakerphone or the ability to monitor incoming calls from the handset before picking up. We were very happy with our old Panasonic phone but it had no earphone jack and... it died. Its replacement (after ATT and Motorola losers) is what is currently infuriating us.

Maybe some sort of propitiation rite - or a Shinto exorcism - is in order?
BTW, I'll be in Somerset for a meeting on June 5, and coming through your area on the way home... wanna do dinner?
