Wenham received the Doctor of the University (honoris causa) for his outstanding contribution to the arts. His strong commitment to social and environmental issues was also acknowledged.

Sean's not until July, but there were pictures of Viggo from the Saint Lawrence Univeristy site at viggo daily, here and someone posted his speech but I can't find it now.

For Sean and Viggo I posited an basic academic lag-time, but I'm just talking through my hat.

Is it just me, or does the hat make him look a little like he just escaped from a Ren Fair? Not that we have those here, but that's how I imagine people at Rennaissance Fairs to look. With robes and silly hats. What's wrong with just a traditional mortarboard?

It's definitely a month for giving degrees to Dunedain, though.

Mortarboards are for undergraduates, and I believe masters. Doctorates wear floppy hats.

Ah, so my housemate will get to wear a silly floppy hat next year when she completes her DPhil.

The hat sort of suits him, but is still a little silly.

Nerds are indeed hot. Some of my favourite sci-fi totty have (earned) doctorates. You gotta love a guy who's pretty and a genius.

The closest I've been to the equivalent is watching the odd reenactment/tournament or getting to wear a Tudor style dress and pretend to be a bar wench at a LARP evening. The real thing looks fun. But then, I am a history geek.
