autumn has burnished my state metallic

dinner at the diner with Chris on her way home from the big powwow of the week in Newark. Autumn has come in, and the last heat haze of summer holds a sharp shimmer above the changing colours.

The standing cornstalks have rendered their field copper, and the wandering soybean fields etch the ground with gold. Two herons shake water off their wings, a silver shimmer in hidden water beneath the overpass. Deer moving against the trees are small flashes of bronze as the sun sets.

Chris is telling me about metallic clay she wants to use in her new project, and buying beads in twisted strands of autumn colour, coming from summer to make fall projects in a different set of hemispheres. Maybe metal is on my mind.

tonight I will start to reread LoTR, indulging myself because I can. Soon Faramir will make me long for the smell of November.

My windows are open for the first time in ages and the current candle carries my prayers aloft in the scent of coriander and pear.

This post is one of the two most poetic posts I've seen today. :)

And this line: Soon Faramir will make me long for the smell of November.
makes me desperately want to come up with a story to go with it. *sigh*

I've used in in several of my stories, but mostly in North's arc.

I wrote about it here when I did the Muse meme.

let's hope this is more than a flying visit.... I have two virtually complete Faramir stories that have been sitting in the raven folder for over a year...

Loved the picture of you and [livejournal.com profile] shuttergal at the V&A.

You're thinking in pretty words. It's very offputting - and also very pretty.

All I meant was that the pretiness distracted me from the dreary things I was meant to be doing and made me want to do and see prettier things instead.
