for the "music" challenge at [livejournal.com profile] tolkien_weekly

Thank you, professor

The Valley is Jolly

“And listen and hark
Till the end of the dark
to our tune
ha! ha!”

The harper hid his face against his beautiful and ethereal companion, who was still smiling rather too broadly and waving feebly.

“Are they gone? Please tell me they’re gone. If I have to tra-la-la-lally one more time, I swear I shall go mad...”

As the answer was slow in coming, he raised his head in time to see the line of dwarves disappearing over the pass.

It was wise in these dangerous days to seem frivolous and harmless to outsiders – but sweet stars! A fortnight with dwarves underfoot!

“A moment — ah, I think we might resume our real lives now.”

Oh how marvelous! I think this answers a few questions we've all been asking ourselves for a while now... *snicker* But seriously, this is really nice. ^__^

Brilliant! I always wondered why the elves in The Hobbit were so totally different (and inane) from those in LOTR! They were pretending for the dwarves ... yep, makes sense!

This is priceless!

I can see them before me! "Are they gone?" "Yes, I think so." "Are you sure? Really sure?"

The poor elves!

(But what if the dwarves also did only pretend?)

Lovely. Tra-la-la-lally indeed. It must have been hard work to keep up the charade of frivolity for so long.

LOL - lovely twist!

Wonderful, absolutely wonderful - you can tell someone's re-reading the Hobbit!! ^_~

...and picking up on all the stuff that put me off it in the first place, cos I read and loved LotR before I got round to reading it.
I did start again recently though - and actually, ignore the patronising language, there is some quite dark stuff in there - that I do believe PJ will pick up when he comes to do the movie.

*roftl*

What an amusing way to look at the silly playfulness of The Hobbit and contrast it with the totally different tone of LOTR! :D

Good job, coming to grips with The Hobbit in this way. I still cannot bring myself to reread it, which is sad and silly.

BTW, Gimli is grumphing in my mind now.*g*

Did you see the Fellowship soundtrack news?

That's nice.

*lol* that was nice! very funny! Now I've got this picture stuck in my head of an elf smiling too broadly, á la "my cheeks hurt, but I'm still smiling, can they please just get out of sight so I can wipe it off my face". greetings, ~morelindo

Very cute (thanks for making me smile). I know just how they
feel--I work in Living History & on a day like today, when my
weaving bit me on the bum (at least figuratively), and visitor
after visitor keeps coming (and I have to be nice, smile, and
*talk* to them) I just want to say 'leave, so I can actually get
some work done.' Yes, I know just how they feel.
