Thoreau and Into The Woods - who knew?

part of this is about where I am, and part is about the RNC. You may decide.

Witches can be right, Giants can be good.
You decide what's right you decide what's good

"I went into the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life... to put to rout all that was not life; and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."

Into the woods,
It's time to go,
I hate to leave,
I have to, though.
Into the woods-
It's time, and so
I must begin my journey.

The way is clear,
The light is good,
I have no fear,
Nor no one should.
Into the woods,
And who can tell
What's waiting on the journey?

But, to speak practically and as a citizen, unlike those who call themselves no-government men, I ask for, not at once no government, but at once a better government. Let every man make known what kind of government would command his respect, and that will be one step toward obtaining it.

Fly, birds,
Back to the sky,
Back to the eaves
And the leaves
And the fields
And the-

To wish and wait
From day to day
Will never keep
The wolves away.

So into the woods
The time is now.
We have to live,
I don't care how.
Into the woods
To sell the cow,
You must begin the journey.

Into the woods to sell a friend-

Into the woods,
It's time to go,
It may be all
In vain, you/I know.
Into the woods-
But even so,
I have to take the journey.

I awoke to an answered question, to Nature and daylight. The snow lying deep on the earth dotted with young pines, and the very slope of the hill on which my house is placed, seemed to say, Forward!

And home before dark!

It is not enough if you are busy. The question is, What are you busy about?

*squick* that's my favorite musical!

even though thoreau never had children, more applicable to the RNC:

Careful the wish you make,
Wishes are children.
Careful the path they take,
Wishes come true,
Not free.
Careful the spell you cast,
Not just on children.
Sometimes the spell may last
Past what you can see
And turn against you...
Careful the tale you tell.
That is the spell.
Children will listen.

Working my way to the head of the line...

"In the USA you can work your way to the head of the line."

My favorite Sondheim is Assassins, and given the tenor of the times, that may be enough to send me to jail.

My favorite line in ITW is the Witch's "You're so nice, you're not good, you're not bad you're just nice. I'm not good, I'm not nice I'm just right."

These idiotic conventioneers think it will never happen to them. If they just follow the party line, they won't get threatening letters from Fatherland Security, their houses won't be searched without a warrant, they won't be detained illegally by a regime who thinks the Geneva Convention was just a corporate-run party they missed. They won't be bombed back to the stone age for Halliburton profiteering. All will be well in their gated communities adn trailer parks. And for Christians! They're God's people you know. And they've always avoided drafts before.

I performed a piece that called the USS Ronald Reagan "a battleship" recently, and afterwards an older party-goer told me it "wasn't a battleship". Of course it isn't- Battleships went out with battles. Just like the War Department went out with wars. Now it's only "Aircraft Carriers" and "Defense" from the defenseless.

I was listening to David Foster Wallace answer a question about politics on a City Arts and Lectures show. He was plainly flummoxed and eventually said that he can't even write about it lest his own despair and sadness become just another bit of volume in this loud time. So sad that political discourse has been defeated by base Media-monopoly pandering...

My question to all Republicans is:
How much evil is OK in your name?

Smearing war heroes?
Killing and maiming countless (because why would WE count THEM) Iraqis?
Race-baiting?
Gay-baiting?
Ammassing all government power in the White House?
Declaring 1 Holy book more important than the Constitution?
Stacking the Supreme Court with Fascists (like Clarence Thomas, the most self-hating party-line voting machine in the modern history)

The Republican party has been taken over by warmongering fearmongering Christian zealots, and way too many of the rank and file thinks little about it. As long as they have their 30 pieces of silver...
They must not regain power. i can't say be reelected- because they weren't elected by even the majority of voters last time.

As witches know, it's never fun being right...

Oh ye gods...I haven't heard ITW for ... quite a long time. Now I want to get my CD out and serenade my co-workers.

"I was watching him crawl back over the wall than BANG, FLASH the lighting crashed, nope, that's another story..nevermind, anyway..."

and the ever famous

"Hello little girl...."

I had such a massive crush on the guy who played the wolf that I simply melted when he purred that line on stage. He also played Lancelot in "Camelot" that summer and I seriously drooled when he did (pardon my french) "Cest Moi"

Funny, nice guy who was a dance major, and sexy as hell too...::twitch::... now that I thnk of it, he would make one FINE Noldor elf...::twitchdroolthud::..
