The Messenger
Eomer, scouts
rating: G warnings: mention of a canon death
book/source: LoTR
Everything belongs to the professor and his estate. I am grateful for the chance to be here.
My original thought for the prompt: archery at
tolkien_weekly
but I'm not sure if "arrow" alone fulfills the prompt
The scouts came back along the old wainroad. Going at once to the Marshall, they told him that all was as expected, except they had found two riders and two horses dead upon the secret trail.
Impatient, Eomer was about to wave them away, when one spoke up. “They were messengers of Gondor, Lord, and they were turned away from the city – fleeing back toward the safety of Rohan.” Little safety that would have been, and all knew it.
“I believe Hirgon was one of them, for though his body was headless, the arrow was still in his hand.”
