Born in the darkness, it glowed from within. It was the most beautiful of Erebor’s gifts; still we could not resist the urge to improve upon it. We polished and faceted, worked it with the sharp edges of our tools and the soft caresses of our hands until it shone like rain upon the moon. The Arkenstone, heart of the mountain.
It was mine, and like a jealous lover I demanded it back
But once you have lost your heart, you cannot retrieve it with force. And I, alas, was too stubborn to accept when it was offered to me.
