waking up for WETA
Dec. 20th, 2004 09:26 am9 am - ugh! Not a time of day I'm used to seeing. But I am geeky enough to have stayed up to order the Gondorian Helms when they went on sale at 9.
I'm not even sure I love all of them - but one of the four is Faramir's helm, and by god, I intend to have it, and if it means ordering the set -- I'm there. Actually Jim and I were both there, as he left late in order to make sure one of us would get in.
Even the onionhead helm has grown on me as ROTK gave me a Pippin so much like the one in my own arc that he has actually replaced Merry as my favorite hobbit after all these years. (There's nothing like spending time in a character's head to form a bond for me.)
And I suspect that when I see the goofy Fountain Guard helms, I will wonder why I ever thought I might not need it.
Must share - Faramir's descriptor (Who writes this stuff?) says :
The unloved son of a mad Steward, Faramir is ordered to retake the city of Osgiliath in the face of impossible odds. Unwilling to disobey his father the Captain of Gondor dons his elegant helm and takes horse to lead his doughty knights one last time. Upon his steel faceplate is embossed the livery of the empire he loves so well and the dead tree that was her heart and soul.
Some of these new editions seem to be in terribly small numbers. 8500 seems really short for the Minas Morgul pair. I didn't realize it was a limited edition until Chris called me to say it was already gone. It sold out almost immediately - everyone like Chris whose family insisted they not buy it so it could be under the tree is totally screwed.
Did those of you in Europe has the chance to order four days ahead of us? If so, that's another reason to make me rant over the stupidity of the staggered release dates in the electronic global village. What difference can 3 or 4 days make? And I saw friendships failing all across the LJ over gloating and spoilers. makes no sense to me.
*currently feeling very bad that I didn't beat Chris's family to the punch and make the ROTK pre-order her birthday present. Who knew.**
