Jommy posted two pictures this week of Boromir, and Boro-gerbil and Fara-ham celebrating at the Lantern festival.

I asked:I know there is a festival that falls around the time of my birthday, but I have forgotten - Is it Obon? It celebrates ancestors and heritage?

And Jommy wrote back: Yes. It is the Bon (Lantern) Festival. We make the model of a horse from an eggplant or a cucumber. Ancestor's souls ride on the horse and come back to the house.

And she drew a picture of Denethor on the eggplant horse, and Boromir on the cucumber riding home to visit Faramir!!

and I am so tired of looking through papers, calling people and grousing about the unbelievable neighbor. Thank god Chris went to NY with us - I have verification that it's not just me. She called me today to see if smoke was still coming out of my ears, because *she* had not gotten over it. So bad it will be funny when I get to a place where I can stand to write it.

In the meantime, let's play. I prefer canasta, but play by mail canasta didn't sound good even to me.
