Some years ago, at a gathering of the clan (the real, or adopted family, as opposed to my birth family - with the exception of my mother, who was adopted by the clan as well) Scott showed me how to do a trick with the Land-O-Lakes Indian Girl on the butter box.

It works like this:

On one of the sides of the butter box, carefully cut around the bottom and sides of the butter box she is holding with an exacto knife, so it can be flipped up.

Cut an indian girl from another box, or a different side of the box, and position her knees in the opening you have cut. Tape her in place, and press the flap closed.

Now tell a gullible friend that if you cut open the butter box and flip it up, the Indian Girl's naked breasts will appear.

Carefully pretend to cut the box open and flip it up. Take away their beverages before you do this.

Someone performs this trick at our house at almost every holiday - it has been done to all new girlfriends, boyfriends, neighbors...

And now, thanks to Jim, you can see it for yourself!

I saw the quiz on your site, turned to Jim, and said "But we already know I am Nicola Tesla!" Then I took the quiz and now I have proof!!

I will admit, I had a moment's hesitation over the question: Siblings - do they belong in your bed? Then I realized they probably meant *my* siblings...

Which Historical Lunatic Are You?

And I always wanted to be! )

1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?
I *love* to shop! Presents, I like everyone to have presents! They're my friends, they need presents!

Oh - you mean, like go into a store? Ok, like Borders - hazelnut coffee, sitting around on the floor with Chris and Jim, winnowing down the pile of travel narratives I must have now...

Just a store? Ick! Why do you think they invented the internet?

(exception to this: aimless trolling around with Chris buying dollar store stuff, or nailpoilish, etc. where we can just stop if we are not having fun)

2. What was the last thing you purchased?
We were in Borders on Wednesday and I bought the Return Of The King soundtrack with the Denethor Faramir cover. On Monday I had something shipped but its a Yulie for Chris, so I'm not sayin...

3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
Online! No people, no salesguys. Three windows open at the same time while I compare prices and shipping.

Best all-time reason for shopping on line:
store: They don't make/import that for the American market
fileg: hmmm - amazon germany... ezdvd australia.... outer reaches, canada....

4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?
No. But I used to save my lunch money and I could buy an LP every week.

5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
I hope very very much that in a day or so I will find out that the answer is *not* our new car... Our Vue went in for its three month maintenance last week and is *still* in there somewhere, with its engine disassembled. Saturn is being very nice, but...

1) What fandoms are you in that you are truly grateful for, and why?
I am really only in one fandom, as I would define that word; Tolkien of course. I watch other things, even read a little now and then - but this is immersion. Do you really need me to say why? You already know I'm a geek.!

OK: I am thankful for words on the page in big rowdy groups; moving pictures on the screen and in my head; people all around the globe awake at all hours of the day and night; obsessive-form poetry and the fact that it was being written in places like South America, the American South and in a Mall in Sidney Australia on ANZAC day; writing down a story for the first time; feedback and encouragement; limericks; gifts in the mail; Meeting Phil Ivy and Anrica the guard at the Two Towers exhibit in Toronto last year, and what they did for me; The fact that my husband is my partner in crime; People who were too far away who came back to share this experience; new people who are old friends and Trilogy Tuesday Tickets. To start.

2) What character are you most thankful for having been introduced to? Why?
All of them. Who they are comes through in what they do - their family, their fidelity, their fellowship. The one word answer would have to be Faramir, though in terms of what I learned, it could as easily be Aragorn.

3) Are you thankful that the fannish sub community exists? Why?
I am! Solidarity, oh my best beloveds! The electronic Anduin; the eagerness to share that shoots around the world without waiting for timezones!

4) Is fandom your primary hobby? If not, what is?
Some days. I am also pretty immersed in the concert production work, and the people I have met through it, and all I have learned. I read, therefore I am.

5) Within your fannish life, what are you most grateful for this year?
Easy - the people I have connected to, what they have shared with me, and what they have convinced me I could do - my own words, on the page, without ridicule or fear.
