Two blink-and-you'll-miss-'em appearances on the CW - One working with the delightful Andrew Migliore - founder of the HP Lovecraft Film Festival. The second, my poster for Call of Cthulhu with the fabulous HP Lovecraft Historical Society.
Onomatopoeic sculptures
Oct. 28th, 2007 01:42 amArtist Atsushi Fukunaga's sculptures and art incorporate manga sound-effect graphics gone 3D. Totally amazing - go to the site for lots more.

Nov. 17th, 2006 01:44 amI was on Kasiopea's sight tonight.
I know most of you are familiar with the Calvin and Hobbes style cartoons she has of Young Boromir, but I hadn't been to the gallery for some time, so I didn't realize there was an entire new set added, mostly dealing with Young Boromir and Young Theodred!

I've sent you to Mike Kaluta's page before, (when I was stealing art from various places to make Tuor's Gondolin header) here's a new addition to Mike's website - a drawing of Annaliese! Click on the picture and go see the big version, and check out the new addittions.
And to avoid playing favorites, go to the illustrator's jam and click on the painting of Lee in his Harrison Ford hat. Then check out the archives....
This was drawn for my pal Lee Moyer who recently colored my Cover and 8-page Alan Moore story for Tom Strong's Terrific Tales #9. The drawing is, in effect, a portrait of Lee's Wife and Best Friend, Annaliese Moyer, Photographer.

Sumo Santa
Dec. 29th, 2003 02:18 pmSo, one day I am in the store laughing at Christmas Ornaments that don't have any least resemblance to Christmas to me - in particular, sports ornaments. I hold up football santa, basketball santa... and I say to Jim - what are the odds on me *ever* finding a sports santa that speaks to my interests?
So, JIm decided to make me one. He is sculpted in the style of a netsuke. The bear came later, but they are inseparable now:

Dec. 28th, 2003 03:43 amHaving a less stressed day -- a day that doesn't start out with the folder where you store everything missing from your desk top is bound to be better ---
Jim and I went out and ate bad things for dinner. Almost every time we eat at Crackerbarrel, we end up talking first-age while we wait to be seated, and I almost always come home with a story idea. This time I actually needed a first age idea, and one that ought to be second nature to Jim -- and nada. So, I consoled myself with cornbread and blackberry preserves - take that, Dr. Atkins. sometimes comfort food is necessary comfort.
Then we rolled home in a carb stupor, curled up on the couch and watched Cosi and Grave of the Fireflies. Well, I won't be writing after that, I am under the couch. (or would be, except I won't fit tonight)
Talked to Lee and Annaliese last night and got to hear their first impressions on ROTK. I am missing them both tremendously this year, but I am starting to perk up as we approach the part of the holidays where we celebrate.
Lee has made me two fab-oo desktops, and tonight they came up at the same time, which cracked me up. (yeah, I run a 21" monitor and the screen from my power book - did I mention I *LOVE* my macs?)

Loki is a self explanatory as it gets. The other, which says in its word balloon "Wheee! I'm an animator!" commemorates our reaction to the work in the fine piece ofcrap cinema that is the Bakshi version of LoTR. (Our other family saying from this *cough* film *cough* is "Boromir — are you ok?" I am still hoping for that desktop to materialize.)
Hoping to post a card tonight as well. In the meantime -- here's some Dave ---

found tarot: the emperor
Dec. 24th, 2003 06:39 am
The Emperor
Descent of the soul into matter. He is the ruler and master of the material plane. His will is law. He introduces rules and order and is the first to reveal to the soul on its journey the need for law and structure. He reveals the necessity of order and guidelines and balances the abundance of the Empress. He reigns-in chaos and teaches control.
Leadership, Authority, Self-Mastery, Government.
establishing a family line, setting direction and tone, emphasizing structure, being systematic. providing shape and form, being organized, sticking to a plan
exerting control, representing the establishment, regulating
Photo by Annaliese Moyer of nesting Rebus dolls Jim and I made for her husband Lee. Based on the character in Doom Patrol.

Wishing you all as many happy holidays as you care to celebrate
Our Solstice Lightbringer Card, 2003
With love from Fileg and Notary Sojac

found tarot: 2 cups
Dec. 20th, 2003 06:15 am
Two of Cups
Love, Partnership, a spiritual union- (Soulmates, Anam Cara)
traditionally romantic, but can be any partnership based on deep mutual understanding. Cooperation and friendship as well as the harmonious union of masculine and feminine. Friendship, affinity, concord
making a connection, joining with another, celebrating union, working together, sharing
calling a truce, healing a severed relationship, declaring peace, forgiving and forgetting
acknowledging an attraction, recognizing a bond, letting yourself be drawn in
OK, this is not so very *found* since Jim drew it for me - it was our Solstice card for 1986. Mr and Mrs Claus seem to have a pretty good handle on expressing endurance without loosing child-like delight.
I spent tonight working with Jim on finalizing this years card, so I know I owe feedback and comments to many of you, and I hope to catch up tomorrow.
found art: jabba the object lesson
Dec. 12th, 2003 05:41 amHad dinner with Chris - it is, infamously, Pea-Soup Thursday in our favorite local in the land of diners, and I came home with a plan and my Trilogy Tuesday (actual physical) Ticket. I am wavering between jumping up and down with excitement and wondering if my back and legs are up to this excursion, wondering how the hell I am going to sneak low-carb, really high-protein food bars into the theater, jumping up and down some more, considering depends and wheelchairs, moments of moaning and squeeing, checking my pulse and jumping up and down some more.
I spent part of my day trying to find a particular piece of art-doggerel that I wanted to send to cruisedirector for her birthday. No such luck - but I have emailed you a few other long lost finds.
In the finds was this horrifying photo, which I share here to amuse Robin.

Does this bring back memories of an all night print shop? Hotel rug Hopscotch?
After staying awake for *way* too many hours, one of us decided that Jabba the Hut looked like a blues man. Someone tracked down this *action* figure, and Jim carved the harmonica from a pink gum eraser. When you moved his tail, the harmonica went back and forth...
People came into the print shop all night to play with it. Can you believe how easily we are amused?
