Jim ([ profile] notarysojac) and I play in three games together ([ profile] anime_abc, [ profile] anime_crops and [ profile] japan_abc.

(His icons frequently crack me up, and I think it's a shame he doesn't post more of them.) Because two of those are a-b-c games, when it gets toward the end of the week it is not unusual for us to be found lying in bed or sitting in a restaurant having conversations that consist of random single words that all start with the same letter. It must confuse the hell out of anyone who overhears us.

I may have mentioned that Jim ([ profile] notarysojac) is interested in anime/manga that you might not think would be a man's first choice... he is currently reading Sunshine Sketch, and he's already a little exasperated with the character Miyu, and the other night in bed he described her to me as being sort of a cross between Osaka from Azumanga Daioh (who he likes) and Myu from Strawberry Marshmallow (who drives him up the wall).

Later he was trying to remember this, but neither of us could recall the parts until my brain supplied me a parody of one of the Morgan Tarot cards, and I called out: "The war has reached a critical point between Osaka and Myu."

ANIME QUIZ - Which Evil Anime Badass Are You?

You are Kowaru Nagisa from "Evangelion"!You are BACKSTABBING evil.
Take this quiz!

The theme in one of my anime games this week is *badass*, and for grins, I typed it into google and came up with the "Which Evil Anime Badass Are You?" quiz. How serendipitous! I ran over to take it.....

Am very amused -

I'm not a "bad boy" kinda girl at all - most of my friends are attracted to the bad boy or the anti-hero, but not me. If there's a straightforward sorta guy available, that's right where I go. I guess I bend a little for "devious for a good cause."

But, I totally adore Kowaru. And what's more he's the *only* character in Evangelion that I can stand at all. (ok, there is one, possiblly two more that I don't actively want to smack all the damn time.) So, an unexpectedly fun result.

On the other-hand, I must express my opinion that I never considered anything about Kowaru *evil*. But, I'll give you badass, though I wouldn't have thought of it myself.

As to quiz results, after looking at the "see all results" page, while I wouldn't identify with anyone, so leaving everything but the main label aside: I am really *not* "backstabbing" evil - I would totally be Irritable evil. My frustration level, especially with stupidity, is *very* low.

Jim ([ profile] notarysojac) and I decided to do the special challenge at [ profile] anime_abc - 26 alphabetical icons for the one anime or manga.

Jim picked one of his current obsessions, PaniPoni Dash (though I think it was the music that first got to him), and I went with my first real anime love, Last Exile. (I thought several times about doing entirely ships..)

mine are here
(entries marked with * are titles of episodes or of music from the series)

entries from challenges, mostly. Begining with E through Q from the game Jim and I both play in
([ profile] anime_abc - and you should go over to his journal [ profile] notarysojac and badger him
to show some of his!) and some mixed stuff, sometimes with alternates.

It is storming like mad - hope we're not in for another round of flooding.

Chris is kitten-sitting for a pair of too-small-to-really-be-separated-from-momma-but-were-rescued kittens and we have an invitation to join her for dinner and a movie, kitten petting and use of the pool for tonight and tomorrow night, so of course there has been lightening on and off constantly since last night. We will almost certainly go tomorrow for dinner and kittens even if the pool doesn't work out.

tonight's anime report: We curled up on the couch for bitching-about-Dreamweaver (that would be me - Dreamweaver - it's Comcastic!) and then we watched vol. 1 of Kamichu!, which we both give our highest recommendation to -- If Hayao Miyazaki and Grant Morrison had a love child, this would be it. We rented this one, but it's going directly onto my buy list.

I seldom post my anime icons - I don't know why I got into that habit, except that when i started most of my flist was fairly LotR oriented. I play in quite a few anime games, (some with required/assigned lyrics in case you're wondering what the heck I'm doing with type.)

Anyway, I'm sort of unfocused at the moment, shopping and prepping for [ profile] notarysojac's birthday (I am easily distracted by shopping for books). Since I don't have anything to say except that it's too damn hot and I've been lying around like a torpid python, I can at least share pixels.

I never remember seem to remember birthdays now (the truth is, living on my own schedule, I don't usually remember what day it is) but LJ just managed to remind me that it's [ profile] avon7's birthday (or at least, it probably is, I think she's 15 hours ahead of me) *hugs* To celebrate, I won't sing, and we will all rejoice.

About a hundred years ago (ok, it was probably 1983 or 4) when Robin Wood ([ profile] jalitha) lived next door, we were preparing for a large Thanksgiving/Birthday (Robin's) get together. We were cutting up vegetables for the veggie tray, and cheese and sausage for the cheese tray, and Robin decided she wanted a twinkie tray as well, so we cut up twinkies and devil dogs and yodels and got donut holes and chocolate dip and fruit spread. It was a big hit, but the kids were so high on sugar so early in the day that we only did it a few times.

Just now, Jim read me an article about how to host an anime viewing party, which give directions for making twinkie sushi. If Robin still lived nearby I'm sure we would have done this by now.

Directions: Slice Hostess Twinkies into pieces about an inch tall. Slice fruit roll-ups in strips long enough and wide enough to wrap around the Hostess Twinkie pieces. Wrap the fruit roll-ups around the Hostess Twinkie pieces. Place dried fruits and candie*s into the cream filling. Place Twinkie rolls on a plate or in a bento box. Garnish with strips of dried mango to resemble pickled ginger. the full article is here

Chris is on a mission to see all the oscar nominees she hadn't yet seen over this weekend.

I just got in from a double header of Memoirs of a Geisha and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Now - there you have one of my favorite books, and one that - well, not so much. But both seemed like they would benefit from big screen viewing. In spite of my trepidation, I really enjoyed both of them.

More on that later. I am headed for the bathroom, coffee, and a little back stretching. Tomorrow Chris and I plan on Brokeback and Walk the Line, but this time without Jim who, sadly, has to work (but may be glad not to have to go - though he enjoyed both of tonight's offerings.

Last night, in addition to getting two packages ready to mail, we watched:

Full Metal on Adult Swim (I have the dvds, but I am trying not to skip ahead because I like having time to think about them, and also because we're so close to the end, and Gah, what will I do then?)

and Ghost In The Shell
(so mean to my favorite character, Togusa)

The first disc of Someday Dreamers, which was not at all what I expected (obviously, I read too many things in NewType and get my titles all confused) but which we both really really enjoyed

the first disc of the second series of Ai Yori Aioshi (I hope this picks up, because we both love the main couple but frequently want to smother the surrounding cast - and this left us waiting for the main plot in vain)

a movie that Fritz ([ profile] aspidites) spotted as a hole in my William H. Macy collection when she was here - Happy, Texas. (Woot! I loved this, even though I wanted a bag to put over my head at the same time. I can't wait to make Chris watch it!)

(that list of sitting should make [ profile] avon7 cringe *g*...
fileg: (a few books)
last night I stepped over a shadow in the hall. I can't seem to remember there are no cats in the house.

I had no idea that [ profile] aspidites was raising quail in her basement. OMG! see the peeps

Jim and I watched Howl's Moving Castle last night. Wow, someone had a list of my mythology buttons to push. There must be a flurry of screencapping for icons and desktops, especially of Howl shedding his feathers.

I am all the more boggled because I don't generally care for Dianna Wynne Jones. Can anyone tell me whether reading the book will give me more wow, or is the reason I liked it so well that it bears little resemblance to the book?

When Totoro's attack:
I am in love with ([ profile] notarysojac) Jim's new icon

aslo, he just posted a pic of our retro yule tree in front of the Gondorian swords -- well, if the white tree can make a comeback, I guess ours has some hope. It does make one wonder if Aragorn and boromir have ducked into a gin mill to see the rat pack....

well, I guess that really sums us up pretty well.
fileg: (anime)
Adult Swim has screwed up my Saturday night by dropping The Boondocks into the middle of the anime lineup.....

i am: cranky, and still sorting videotapes
fileg: (crash landing)
we're watching anime (surprise) and jim is doing a running commentary for me when I can't look up. "They left him to clean up the boys dorm," he says, and then begins to detail what he thinks this will entail: carefully stacking the porn mags; pick up all the saki bottles, wash the wank out of the towels...

*giggles* I love my boy. He washes the towels here, too, but I won't speculate on what that means.

Gah, I have an 11 am appointment with my eye doctor. Must tell him not to do anything that requires dilating my eyes because we are headed to the early afternoon Serenity with Chris after.

I was originally not so happy about the early morning appointment, but since it meant Jim had the day off for the movie, that made things much better.

I have no idea how they can tell how my vision is at pre-noon appointments since my eyes are still glued shut. Plus, it's a long standing joke between Dr Neiheisher and I that I have long ago memorized the card with the tiniest writing - so when they ask what the smallest paragraph I can read is, I usually begin "Our small boat moved downstream...." before he gets the card into the holder.

I probably should think about getting a spare pair of glasses. My current backup is a pair of sunglasses, but they only have my distance prescription - I am so used to the varilux that they make me feel queasy when I wear them now.

Perhaps he'll talk jim into a prescription pair for reading when he has his contacts in instead of the drugstore pair that leave grooves in his head.

must try to sleep, I guess, though that trick never works....
fileg: (i go like the raven)
Jim and I are watching Tokyo Babylon, and everytime they play the full theme song, I expect it to be Billy Bragg.....
fileg: (oh bother....)
thought I would be posting more than icons, or at least catching up reading my f-list but no....

let's just agree that no one will say "Dreamweaver MX" to me for awhile....

Anyway, since I am aching to go to bed, here is another batch of icons (don't worry, we're nearly done) - CSI, Trek and Anime in this set.
